Soirée manitobaine
- Pascal Boutroy — Director of L'aventure française
This Manitoban, originally from France, quickly became involved in the film and video industry. He is multi-talented having worked as a screenplay writer and director for a number of television series and documentaries for the Productions Rivard such as: Mission XY, L’ivresse des sommets, Les nouveaux mondes, Mon Riel à moi, L’aventure française. Pascal is also the artistic director of the Media Arts Centre Freeze Frame. Pascal Boutroy will be present for the screening of his documentary: L’aventure française, Wednesday October 19, at 7 pm, during the Soirée Manitobaine at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain.
- Daniel ROA — Vidéoclip Alphabête
This one-man orchestra and talented musician has played with a number of artists and bands before launching a solo career. As a singer songwriter-composer, he enjoys playing with words and sound effects. In 2009, he released his first album: Le nombril du monde. Daniel Roa takes us on a foray into his spirited musical universe, seasoned with lyrics stamped with intelligence, humour, and candor. With exceptional musicians by his side, he has toured extensively across Canada, in Switzerland, and in France, meanwhile making time to write scores for theatre and engaging in studio recordings as a free-lance musician. In 2011, Hyperbole, contains groove, the ubiquitous energy and delight that explain Daniel’s great love affair with music and his dynamic presence on stage. His interests also extend to new media and recently he co-directed a video clip for his recent creation: Alphabête. You can see both the videoclip and a short performance by Daniel ROA Wednesday October 19th at 7pm during the Soirée manitobaine, at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain.
- Marijosée — Vidéoclip Comme la route
A Franco-Manitoban singer-songwriter-composer, Marijosée conveys an ambiance of franco-pop flavored with jazz, and world-inspired rhythms. Her voice is powerful and nuanced with soft notes, which is surprising and very engaging. Her songs are filled with stories of the highs and lows of life, full of lightness and color. She has chosen Comme la route as the first song to be featured in a video-clip developed in collaboration with the Director Tyler Funk. You can see the videoclip and a short performance by Marijosée, Wednesday October 19th at 7pm, during the Soirée Manitobaine at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain.

- Benoît Brière — Actor in Le sens de l'humour
A graduate of the l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada, Benoît Brière is a multidisciplinary actor who excels in theatre, classical and modern authors, such as: Molière, Beaumarchais, Feydeau, Goldoni, Tremblay, Marcel Dubé, Serge Boucher and Stéphane Brulotte. He is the winner of many awards, including two “Masques” Awards and three Geminis. As an actor, he played in a number of television productions: Musée Éden, Le Négociateur, Gypsies, Juliette Pomerleau, Cher Olivier, Marguerite Volant, Les Grands Procès, La Petite Vie, Le Plateau. Some of his movie career highlihgts include: The Baroness and the Pig, Joyeux calvaire, Louis 19, Un homme et son péché, Station Nord, La grande séduction, L’âge des ténèbres, Magique, Oscar, La dame rose. His last work, a comedy, Le sens de l’humour - A sense of Humour, (subtitled in English) will be at the Cinémental film festival, Friday October 21, at 7pm. Benoît Brière will be at the festival to present this film in Manitoba.
- Mario Saint-Amand — Actor in Gerry
Mario Saint-Amand has been acting in a wide variety of roles on television and in film. His film career started in 1989 with Love moi, by Marcel Simard. His talent was further appreciated in L’automne sauvage and Karmina, both directed by Gabriel Pelletier. In the fall of 2007, he was offered a role in Je me souviens, by André Forcier. In 2009, he played the part of a tormented young father in Lucidité by Julien Knafo. In 2010, he is chosen to played the part of Gerry Boulet in the film Gerry directed by Alain Desrochers. His last film was Côteau Rouge with André Forcier. This fall, he will be playing in Tout m’assassine, a theatre production directed by Dominic Champagne. Mario Saint-Amand is a multi-talented artist having also toured with his blues band, the Saint-Amand Blues. He will be at Cinémental to present the film Gerry, Friday October 21st, at 9:30 pm at the Cinema Globe.

- Rita Lafontaine — Actress in French Immersion
This theatre actress is well known to Quebec audiences. She has starred in 15 roles in productions from the playwright Michel Tremblay. She has also distinguished herself before Canadian, European and American audiences. She has acted in popular television series: Grand-papa, Cormoran, Le retour, Le monde de Charlotte, Les Super mamies, Un monde à part. She has mastered the skills of her craft in popular and classical productions. She has acted in 30 films, since 1972 including: Il était une fois dans l’est, Le soleil se lève en retard, La vie fantôme, Mon amie Max, Le cœur au poing, L’homme idéal, Les boys III, La grande séduction, Noémie le secret, Une vie qui commence. In 2005, she was awarded the Order of Canada. Audiences can meet Rita Lafontaine at Cinémental’s screening of French Immersion, Sunday October 23rd at 7pm, Globe Cinema.
- Kevin Tierney — Director de French Immersion
Kevin Tierney is Irish-Canadian, well established in Montréal with quite the track-record in the film industry. Initially trained as a teacher, he later became interested in film during the 1990s. Since then, he tried his hand as an actor, scriptwriter and mostly as a producer. He is recognized as one of Canada’s most important producers having worked on television movies, television series, documentaries, fictional dramas and comedies. Some of his best known work includes: One Dead Indian, Good Neighbours, Twistand Le Trotsky. He contributed to the screenplay and produced the movie Bon cop bad cop which received critical acclaim. French Immersion (with English Subtitles) is the first film he directs and he will be attending Cinémental’s film festival Sunday, October 23rd at 7 pm to present his latest creation.
